The Afterlife. What comes next? Ex-Olympian is the musical vessel for Liam McGorry, songwriter & musician for bands such as Saskwatch and Dorsal Fins. After releasing the debut 7” Voices In My Head & Lilac Youth (Feat. Nkechi Anele) through Northside Records & Dot Dash July 2020, Ex-Olympian’s debut record Afterlife came out in October 2020 thru Dot Dash/Remote Control, finally able to be launched at the Northcote Social Club Thursday May 27th.

Ex-Olympian will be joined by the Katarzyna Wiktorski Quartet and DJ Chris Gill to accompany them through this northside expedition.

Polish born, Melbourne-based; Katarzyna is a pianist, composer, arranger, producer and band leader. Inspired by Andrea Keller’s Wave Rider and Linda Oh’s Aventurine she formed her first major group the Katarzyna Wiktorski Octet in 2019. Fusing an unconventional string quartet with a piano-sax jazz quartet, her music is influenced by classical, jazz, film music and contemporary sensibilities. Kat’s music explores light and dark landscapes that create an emotional, ornate listening experience.

Digital Release of Jade Nye "Que Pasa En La Oscuridad" Single

In this highly-anticipated release, Jade Nye will for the first time be sharing the lead single from her debut album OSCURA in “Que Pasa En La Oscuridad.” Combining elements of jazz, flamenco and cabaret while mixing Spanish and English lyrics, “Que Pasa En La Oscuridad” explores themes of loneliness and isolation from authority in simultaneous bleak yet hopeful array of vocals, piano and saxophone.

Recorded in Melbourne’s 2020 lockdown, OSCURA celebrates aspects of light and dark in an intimate sonic space.

KW Octet Vinyl Launch "From a Distance" at the Jazzlab

Polish born, Melbourne-based Katarzyna Wiktorski is a pianist, composer, arranger, and producer.
Inspired by Andrea Keller’s Wave Rider and Linda Oh’s Aventurine she formed her first major group the
Katarzyna Wiktorski Octet in 2019. They sold out a performance at he Jazzlab in December, as part of the Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival (in a co-presentation with the MJC).

Fusing an unconventional string quartet with a piano-saxophone jazz quartet, her music is influenced by classical, jazz, film music and contemporary sensibilities. Kat was determined to overcome the constraints of lockdown and persevered to make an ambitious four-track debut EP of original music. Featuring previously unrecorded pieces, she produced and directed her team of seven to record each layer of instrumentation to build the tracks.Since its release in November 2020, the EP has featured on national and international radio including BBC6, Bandcamp weekly and was included in The Guardian’s Best 10 Contemporary Albums of 2020.

To celebrate the vinyl edition of From a Distance EP, this show will include two sets of original music including new arrangements of isolation singles and new compositions.
